For many years non-government organizations involved with adoption in Australia, New Zealand and nearby countries have communicated through informal networks to discuss topics of common interest. In 2005 it was proposed that this cooperation be formalized into an Association that would facilitate networking between our organizations, promote high standards of practice in adoption, and act as a representative body at in international level.  The outcome was this Association, called the Asia Pacific International Forum (APIAF).

Individuals who have a specific interest in international adoption, including health professionals, child welfare specialists, may also apply to join the Forum at the discretion of the Council.

Asia Pacific International Adoption Forum advocates on behalf of children in need of permanent families and promotes ethical practices in international adoption.
